If the engine is in good shape and the carb jetted right, standard plugs are usually all you need.

Use the cheapest plug you can. Take the time to gap them correctly and change it out a couple times a year and you will never have a spark plug problem.

man you change your plugs a couple times a year? in my old XR250 i ran NGK and even a Splitfire and i can get 2 years easy out them no problem. and yes standard NGK is just fine.

Plug straps bouncing around in the combustion chamber can be loads of fun.
The weakest part of a plug is the strap, and with extended use the chance of the strap failing grows. Exponentially with a spitfire plug...but I won't go there....

OK, so time may not be the best judge. Take periodic looks at the strap, and when the sharp corners start to round off, it is time for a new plug.
