NEED HELP YZ100 or YZ125

Im in desperate need of help. Not finding any VIN number and need help with discovering the year of my Yamaha. Its either a 80 or up yz 125 or 100. Pretty sure its a 100 but could I get some pointers? What parts will fit on this bike? Great looking bike, just got it running but its missing a air box cover and air filter along with the ignition cover.
It has numbers on it to match the motor right below the bars, but its a 9 digit code.

The VIN is the 9 digit number stamped on the steering head. The first 3 digits will help you identify the model.

This site is helpful for old Yamahas

It looks like the first 3 digits on a 1980 YZ100 are 3R2.

For a 1980 YZ125, it's 3R3

If those don't match, it might be a different year, and the link I posted should help.

Would you happen to know what year yz125 parts would fit on this bike? Pretty sure it an 81 or 82 yz100. I just need a ignition cover and a air box cover

Sorry, don't know about parts sharing.

The YZ100 was supposed to be a very fun bike to ride, but I remember them being somewhat smaller than the YZ125. I think production was always a lot less than the YZ80 and the YZ125.

FWIW, the VIN on the '81 YZ100 begins with 3R2 like the '80, while the '82 and '83 YZ100 begin with 5X3. That could indicate the '82 model had substantial changes from the '81.

For bike ID, using google images can be helpful. Graphics are often gone from the bike you want to identify, but look closely at things like the forks, swingarm and side covers to see which matches your bike for a positive ID. Seat shape and gas tank, too.

Edit: Using google images, it appears the '81 has a 'conventional' seat, while the '82 has the seat that goes way up on the tank.

5x3002275 is the VIN stamped below my bars and on the motor. I have looked on websites and cant find the year, the seat on the 100 runs up over the gas tank a little so it should be an 81 or 82. Any info will be helpful

That would be an '82 YZ100J.

The link I posted earlier shows the '81 would not begin 5X3 and the '83 would have a higher VIN, like 5X306xxx.

I hope you are able to find the parts you need - I bet the '83 will be almost identicial to your '82 and share just about everything.
