Yz Engine Serial Numbers

Looking at at 1999 YZ 125. Clymers states that the starting engine serial number is 5ET1..... for that year. This bike starts with engine serial number EE.... on the plate behind the kick starter. It is a pro circuit mod engine. What does this bikes serial number indicate ???
The current serial number doesn't match up to anything I have checked in Clymers back to 1994, is it a pro circuit number or something stamped on the case ? Thanks for helping this novice out with any info!

get the vin numbers from the frame, i think the 8th digit can be decoded for years. some one on here will happily run the numbers to ensure it is kosha!

The 10th digit on the Vin denotes the year and on Yamahas, the last 6 digits or so on the engine match the last ones on the Vin. Post the Vin and the engine number and I can decode it for you.

Engine serial number is E105E-009146. It has been to procircuit and back for engine mods. Thanks

That Vin is no good, recalculate and reply! No bueno on the engine either. The only Vin that was close to what you have is this: JYACE03CXXA008675. I can see where this is going :scream:

I will check when I get home. I am sure about the engine but could have made a booboo on the VIN aas it was 2am when I checked. What do you suspect, is the bike hot or just salvaged bits and pieces???

I did copy the VIN wrong, it is JYACEO3COXAOO8765. So we still differ by an O and a K ?

Now you have it right now, and yes, the 9th digit is a "0". I'll check some more.........

i have an 83' yz 250 that has serial number on the case and the steering head. The number is 24y-002093. That is it how do i check for a vin with a number like that?
