I have what may be a stupid question. Can a cylinder be welded to repair a crack(s) in the cooling side of the cylinder. My son and I have just become the owner of a 2002 yz85 with some motor issues. It appears as though the motor has been run hot as the crank is in need of repair. (this i new about). Upon further inspection I found that the cylinder has two very small cracks (almost microscopic) and one larger crack. The larger crack continues from the inside to the outside near the exhaust port. In summary I do not want to have to purchase a new cylinder ($358.00) immediately. I am wondering if anyone has any success with welding in a situation such as this. I realize a new cylinder is likely in our future but it would be nice to get this bike up and running with just a bottom end rebuild. We would have the winter to save up some cash to purchase a new cylinder. Thanks in advance for your advice. :bang:
