250SX Futures Will Run At Six Rounds Of The 2022 Monster Energy Supercross Championship
Details for Supercross Futures were part of Feld Entertainment’s announcement to hype up the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross Championship.
This is a significant development because, for the first time in history, A Class amateur racers will compete inside stadiums and in front of crowds on Saturdays.
The program will focus exclusively on the 250SX Futures Class by running the division at seven rounds in the 2022 series, having the AMA recognize it as a National championship for amateurs, and making it the main route in the Road To Supercross.
This revamped effort by the AMA and Feld Entertainment, which aims to help aspiring riders learn the skills of Supercross, is part of a larger plan to advance amateur racing in the US. With events like Supercross Futures and the Pro Motocross Combines, developing talent will be able to put in laps on the same tracks as the pros and experience a full race day.
The six Supercross rounds that will serve as Premier Qualifier races for the 250 SX Futures Class will be Oakland, Anaheim Two, Glendale, Arlington, Atlanta, and Foxborough.
The top-four finishers of these Premier Qualifier events will advance to the Futures Championship race, which will happen during the 2022 Salt Lake City Supercross at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The winner of this race will be awarded the National championship by the AMA.
We sat down with Mike Muye, the Director of Operations at Feld Entertainment, to discuss the new format and what it means for the future of Supercross.
