I have a friend that is thinking of getting a 01 Dodge 4x4 x-cab with a Cummmings in it. And she is trying to find out what kind of mileage it will get when she is not hauling horse's with it? Any help will be great, Thanks. :)

16 - 20 depending on how you drive. I average 17/18 and the best I have gotten is 21; that's not very often. Hauling it's usually around 14.
I have an 00', E-cab, 4x4, with the 5 speed. It's a great truck :thumb:

The biggest key with the Cummins as with most engines is going to be what gearing it has. If it's running the 4 series ratio the mileage will be quite a bit less as that I6 does not like to rev. Most folks I know with the old style engine get around 18 on average unless they have the 4s then it's more like 14.

I drive a '00 Dodge 2500 4wd CTD/6spd with 4.10 gears and 315/75R16 (~35" dia) tires. The BEST mileage I've done is 17 mpg on level highway with the cruise set at 2000 rpm/66 mph. The 4.10s are a mileage killer but I pull a 36ft 5th wheel.

4.10s with 35" tires has to bring the overall gearing back down to the 3 something range doesn't it? I suspect the biga$$ tires suck fuel. Diesel mpg can vary substantialy based on driving habits and load. Much more so than a gasser.
