Ktm 125sx 03 or earler model or rm,yz help me choose

there is a 2003 model 125sx at my local dealer for $4500 australian but i have seen 01 and 02 models for at least $500 cheaper butthey are alot further away and the 03 is only a 10 min drive. is there much of a difference I really like the look of the 03 model better than the 02,01's should I save up a little longer and get the 03 would it be better for a 150lbs 5"5 15 year oldcoming off a klx125? I have seen other bikes alot cheaper in the $3000-3800 range these are rm's yz's and kx's that are 01-02 model I am getting into mx racing so I want the best performer on the track but something that I will be able to handle So Is the 03 125sx for m and if not what do you reccomend. thankyou alot

P.s the only motocross bike I have ever ridden is a 01 yz250f I was thinking of going 4 stroke but thought it would be 2 expensive and complicated rebuilds I have never done a rebuild or anything like that but the dealer said that he could teach me how 2 do a full rebuild on a 2str but he could only show me how 2 check valves and he would have to do the actual rebuilding and it would cost more. how are 2 strokes different thanks and sorry 4 such a long post

i would first of all get the newest bike you can because ktms suspension get better every year. second i would make sure that the dealer know what they are doing (setting the bike up for you). this makes a huge difference.

Compared to the 01 and 02 model , the 03 has only 5 speeds , instead of 6 , not much difference on the mx track .
The fork on the 01 is only a 43 mm , 48 mm on both the 02 and 03.
The 03 has a bigger axle on the front wheel , like 04 and 05.
The suspension is generally considered to be better every year , but the valving on the 03 leaves most people looking for a revalve of both fork and shock.
Your biggest " problem " with a KTM is likely to be the suspension , the engine is really strong , and can be improved further quite easily.
Not much difference from 03 to the 04 , apart from a different rear spring and minor details , the 05 is said to have way better suspension stock , and a new frame , which most people say is better.
I would go for the 03 model if it was me.....And it would be a good idea to join KTMtalk.com , there is a lot to read over there.
The forks can be improved a lot without spending a lot of money , and so on.....

i had one.....its a blast to ride.

1) its probably only worth around $3000.00
2) proper jetting & a pro circuit pipe/silencer will have it running really well
3) these guy's are right....stock suspension needs alot of help, but can be made to work good

125's have terrible resale value but are a heck of alot of fun to ride ! this one is competitive with the 250f's and will lay the wood to the japanese 125's.
