I just bought a bike off of someone for 450 bucks a little while ago... the bike is a blast to ride, in pretty bad cosmetic shape but still fully functional.

I was told it was an 84... it is infact NOT an 84 but older. From the images I have found, this is the closest thing to it. which is a 78 to 80 style.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/engraym/CR250_80.jpg

Same rear suspension setup including the "adjustable" bar running along the rear shocks/springs, same red lettering on the seat stating "CR250R" But the bike is void of any logos at all except for a "honda/fox" racing sticker on the air cleaner box.

I know you can mix and match parts such as gas tanks to an extent and this tank is plastic. The motor is red with the kickstart on the LEFT side of the bike which took some getting used to.

I need to replace the rear shocks on this bike because they are in pretty sad shape... way too bouncy...

Any help is appreciated in identifying my bike down to the year... I will have pictures of my actual bike later on today but that bike has the same body trim, rear shocks with the "adjustable" bars on it and the same lettering on the seat.

I just need to know what year bike I got and what an "Elsinore" bike is and what sets them aside. I will post up pictures later of my bike

1980, that model is unique,81 and up is water cooled,78 and 79 are pretty close on the frame and motor. The hair on my neck stands up over the frame tags missing though check for engine numbers.

Here you go :) Serial number on the motor which confirms it is an 80... and some more pictures...

Maybe someone with more experience could elaborate on such things as how the rear shocks are "adjustable" it looks as if you could replace the upper spring with a longer/shorter one which would be what I assume.

the shocks are pretty much shot though... just spring pressure at all the shocks aren't doing anything and I have found it's difficult to track them down aside from ****. :(

I did a compression check and it yeilded just about 120psi which from what I have seen is alright. motor ran great but the plug fouled out, I ran it only a few times up and down the driveway and took it down the road to get a feel for 3rd, 4th and 5th under some stronger throttle. I checked NGK's website and there was a different plug installed then what they recommend and I am unsure of the ratio he mixed the gas at.

I want to quiet it down a bit though... It's so loud I cannot talk to another rider or someone over to check the bike out without yelling and im sure the neighbors would get sick of it too compared to my 125 suzuki SP 4 stroke which is very quiet.

I am definitely going to be restoring this bike down to painting the frame... Anyone know where I can find a color code for this or a place to get it mixed at.

The '80 is/was a very easy bike to ride. They were all about low & mid-range, and didn't rev out much - much like an MR enduro model. Power is very smooth and there's very little hit.

Ride it like an XR (short-shift & let it pull) and you'll have a blast.

man I feel like I am 10 years old again with my MX100 riding this thing (except with oodles more power) cannot wait for spring to venture up north to ride!

THe joy of riding a bike for me is one of the greatest joys I have in life. Did it since I was a kid and love the freedom.

I forgot to hold the throttle open on the compression test so those numbers are not valid... It does have decent compression though. I cannot roll it down the hill and coast start it in 2nd gear, back tire just drags on the pavement.
