Would a 1979 DT250 be servicable as a vintage racer? Obviously, the bike is heavier than its mx counterpart. Obviously the power is less than the YZ 250. But if the bike were in good enough condition, could the suspension, handling, and power be upgraded enough to make the bike competitive?

Or is it simply better to find a YZ/CR/RM from the era and be done with it?

GUNFTR, it is quite easy to make it a race bike. Give the engine to Eric Gorr and let him work his magic. As for the suspension i would pull the mono off of a YZ along with the front fork and triples. The DT would make a good Cross country bike for the fact it has alot of bottom end power.

If it is decent shape sell it and buy a real mxer. You could convert, it but it would cost you and you would still not have as good of a bike as the real deal.
