You purchase a service manual for your bike and read it several times. After reading, if you feel you have the necessary skills and equipment to acomplish the task, replace the shaft.

Remove the bolts crack the case and follow the newly purchased manual. It's not extremely hard. Make sure the trans doesn't fall out when the case is split. You'll be able to remove the springs and the shifter will slide out.
Make sure to dry shift it many times before sealing the case back togather. This will tell you if the springs are in correctly.
Getting the springs in correctly is the tricky part.
Get a manual and DO NOT BE IN A HURRY.
