Hello, I have a 1988 dt50 that starts after several kicks with the choke on and revs high for about 15 seconds and then dies..does anyone know what is causing this problem..The engine feels like it has nearly no compression and i can kickstart it by hand, so is this likely the issue or is it just because it is a fifty that it turns over so easy. Any help at all is much appreciated..Thanks

jaguars, the low compression feel at kickstart is typical dt50. is caused by a large ratio between the starter sprockets. no big deal but once the bike is hard to start you have to hit the kickstarter so hard to gain rpm that most likely, in short period, something is break.

for the problem, clean the carb and make sure gas is getting to the carb. the bike has a steel tank and sometimes get very rusty inside. if you have to remove the petcock to clean the small screen filter inside the tank, take care to unscrew it. use plenty of penetrant spray.

good luck
