I found a bike that looks like a fun practice bike and I was just curious about it.

It's a 1997 CR 125, looked to be in OK condition, and the asking price is $700. I think He will come down on the price. How well do these bikes perform? And what would it cost to rebuild it?

Basically I want something to ride with my friends YZ 125 (2005) and another friends Factory team 250F. I know I probably can't keep up, But I just want to ride while I wait to save up the cash for a 2008 model 250. What do you guys think?

That sounds like a pretty good price, that is if it's in good condition. A CR 125 is a rocket you shouldn't have ANY trouble keeping up, they are high performance and will fling ya like nothing. Pretty good bike for a begginer, being a lower cc.

to rebuild (top end only) it could vary. it's possible the bike could need replating/resleeving, which will set you back $100-200. At the least you'll probably need a new piston, rings, gaskets, etc. which will be about $110. sometimes u only need rings, which are only $20-30

That bike is a blast from the past for me. I had one. If you are a good rider and can keep it on the pipe only better riders will leave you. At least untill you get close to the local pro level. If you are a beginner the bike has more that you know how to use anyway. Don't worry about the brand of bike just is it in good shape or not. Also if you put new rings in your bike go ahead and do a piston. A blown up head that can't be saved is not worth the price of the piston and gasket kit. Good luck I loved my 125 and it forced me to learn how to use the clutch.

700!!!!?? That's a steal man. Maybe cause where I live that bike would be going for about 2000-2500 bucks. ok roughly 1800-2300 american dollars. WOW I would buy it for that much as long as it's running. Then you do as the others said the top end and she should be good that is if there are no bottom end problems. GOod luck!

You need to move. ;) I got a 2002 RM 125 in good condition in spring 2005 for $1500.00.

IMO, just about anything under $1000 is a good deal on a full size bike in good condition, no matter the age.

yeah consider yourselves lucky. Bikes are a rip off here. I just bought one today a 2000 yz 125 for $2000. That's a pretty damn good deal. It's sad. But c'est la vie.
