I am considering trading in my '94 KDX 200 for a 250. My local dealer has two rm 250's, one '97 and one '98. The '97 is in pretty good condition, their asking 1800 for it. The '98 is in better condition than the '97, there asking 2200 for the '98. Which is a better deal? Which bike is better, the '98 or the '97? Thanks guys.

If I remember what I have read, the '98 was actually slower than the '97. A friend had a '97 and had good luck with it. Handling was typical Suzuki, great turning with a little headshake. Suspension was decent, also.

I had a 99 rm125, which is the same basic layout as the 250's you are questioning. I had very good luck with mine. Never had any problems whatsoever. My friend's bike was the same way, always a good, dependable runner. The only concern I ever had about the engine design was that the water pump is housed in the crankcase, meaning that to get to it you have to split the cases. But neither my friend or I had a problem to make that an issue.

They seem about right to me. But I live in California, where the prices are ridiculous for older bikes. I think I would go after the '97, pocket the extra cash, and use it to fix up the bike. Either way, good luck!

96 RM's had a MAJOR issue with the tranny. I would take the 98 as this would put you out of the range of catching the tail end of that prob...

I think for the '97 model a few of the gears were changed. But I'm almost positive that the trannies from '97-2000 were identical.
