I would STRONGLY disagree! It has huge potential and is really a pretty good bike stock. As a matter of fact MY personal bike has less than the cost of a new MX bike including the purchase of a used bike to start with and is setup exactly as I want including suspension tuning & engine modifications!

Possible ideas....
-SRC oil cooler.
-Thunder Alley complete exhaust system (you won't belive the difference!).
-e Rider hydraulic clutch (way better than the Magura setup.)
-SRC Kiwi case saver

Here's where I'm at.
-284cc kit with high compression piston (thank you Mr. Eric Gorr!)
-Kibblewhite Machine head overhaul with Serdi'ed seats & KW valves.
-Rich ground on the ports and did the assembly (as well as designed all the engine mods and for that I owe him a HUGE THANK YOU!)
-Powroll HD clutch springs & fresh OEM plates.
-SRC oil cooler
-IMS Pro pegs (VERY sharp teeth!)
-IMS shark fin
-IMS shifter
-A-Loop CR plastic & seat kit
-Acerbis black plastic all around
-Acerbis DHH light
-Moose skid plate
-Excel rear rim
-DID Gold chain
-SRC Kiwi case saver
-Renthal sprockets
-Pro Taper CR high bars
-Renthal soft grips
-UniFilter & cage
-EBC front pads
-HRC rear pads
-TONS of new Honda parts from Service Honda!!! Everything from little seals, O rings and bolts to rub pads for the chain to new airbox (original was cracked) and clutch plates.

OK it might get a little wierd here...
-Emig Racing triple clamps
-KX125 USD fork (thanks Jeremy @ MX Tech!)
-KX125 front brake assy & wheel
-Extended rear shock to match longer travel front (Thanks again Jer!)

Coming soon!
-Cycra ProBend Racer Pak in black with silver plastic
-E Line carbon fiber chain guide
-e Rider hydraulic clutch
-Galfer Wave rotors
-pumper carb or Hot Cam (pending Rich's suggestion)
-straight rear sub-frame (oops!)

BTW you know what's really cool? My son lunched the engine in his '02 XR80, the crated engine is now on it's way to Rich

Don't forget you had some welding and gusseting done on the frame, Patman :). If you're going to be really pushing it that will become necessary (same with KLX300s and other bikes in this category).

Pat,

So are you agreeing that there isn't much you can do to an XR 250?

Yeah I will along with a real write up. You might check the photo album for DW'03 as I know several people snapped pictures.

Honestly I have less than the MSRP of a brand new MX bike in my XR. I started with a used '99 model. The front end cost me about $500 used.

The hydraulic kit is not on my XR... yet but will be. I put one on my previous bike HERE and so I KNOW it will fit and is a top quality kit. You can buy one from these guys e-rider

I'm slowly working on a complete writeup
