I just saw a list of rider numbers for 2002 sx season and had a couple questions.

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/news.asp?News=1&ID=2371

1. Why is RC still #4 he definately was first in points in both SX and MX.

2. Why is pastrana still 199. Hes moving up to 250s but he was still better than 199th in points last year.

I think that there are a lot of pictures and videos out there with these numbers on their bikes. These two guys are pulling some major cash from sponsers. I think the sponsers had some influence with them keeping the numbers so as to be more easily recognized.

MO money. You nailed it. Maybe we will be able to get some #4 and #199 hats in 2002. I would think that the bike manufacturers would want the #1 plate on their machine. I guess the riders see the possibility of more money by keeping the same number, like they do in Nascar and other sports.

He could only have the #1 plate in the 250cc class if he won that class the year before. I'm guessing your referring to his championship in the 125 sx last year. The only rider that can run the #1 plate in the 250's next year is RC.
