I got the flyer in the mail last week. They moved it to Odessa.

Who's going? Come'on Bsmith that's in your neck of the woods.

I can't decide on the ironman (did it last year), the harescramble, or both.

Doug and I will be there, not sure which events we'll run yet. If his deal for another bike works out we'll do the race if not he'll do the poker run. Craig wants to run the mini race so we'll see how it goes, maybe the family run and the mini race :). Depending on the weather and how the family feels about the trip.

Really happy to see this come together and also the White Knuckle race in the fall. Hats off to the Stumpjumpers in a non-Montana sort of way.

I feel like I've been called out :scream:

I have never done a race, but maybe I could work something out. What do I need to enter, AMA membership?

What are the dates?

No memberships needed I think, but check with the NMA first.  www.nmaoffroad.org

What is it like in Odessa?  Dusty and rocky just like Vantage?  Is anyone from there or familiar with the course or terrain?

At the vantage ride last year I only needed to show up and pay the entry fee. No memberships, sound tests, spark arrestor checks, or anything. No memberships required.

They got us on a gate fee (5$ a head?) when we arrived but I considered that my campground fee since I slept in the truck the night before.

There were hundreds of trucks and rvs. A city was formed in the desert.

The club put on a good rider's meeting and all the finishers got t-shirts so what the heck, the entry fee just got smaller.

The course was a couple laps around a long loop. This meant a guy (who wasn't racing) could fill up his tank and have a rest at the truck after lap one.

This will be an hour east of Vantage, but you can expect the same quality of event.

Its the closest thing to the Daytona Race for the Washington offroad crowd. The poker runs are great fun and quite a change from the woods events on the west side.

I'm getting ready. I had to test the fuel range of the new XR. At 48 miles I hit the reserve as I pulled into the parking lot at Tahuyah yesterday. The Desert 100 flyer says I need to be able to go 50 without gas. So do you folks think I will use more fuel per mile or less in the Odessa area?

Tahuya was a huge waterhole. After 50 miles I was drenched adn ready to pack up. Those dang sneaky underwater roots stink.

So did everyone make it?

Nice course, no rocks, plenty of people. I think Odessa is a much better location.

I couldn't find the antifreeze van though.
