I am 42 and in fairly good shape. I am 6'2" and 200 lbs. I grew up on motorcycles and had a CR 250 and then a CRF 450 until a few years ago. I think I would say I am still a novice level rider. I can clear doubles, etc. Looking into a new bike. I always heard that because of my size I need a 450. When I had my crf 450 it seemed like such a beast. Tons of power. Would I be fine riding my local track and racing a little on a 250? Would a 250 be easier to handle and not dissipate my energy so fast? Or, with the new power settings on 450s could I use those to mellow out the power?

honestly i would go with the 250. 200lbs is more than the average rider i would say(no dissrespect) but its not too much for a 250 by any means. 6'2 is tall, but the seat height on the 450 and 250 is virtually identical. modern 250s pack a strong motor, but modern 450's are basically rocket ships. you would be fine racing or riding around on a track or trail with a 250. youre not going to get as tired on a 250, and your going to have enough power to do whatever you want. hope this helps

Just keep in mind 250fs are set up for riders in the 160lb range. If you're just playing around that probably won't be an issue. The motors are planty strong enough to pull 200lbs, but if you're a heavy on throttle in the higher rpm range they'll consume alot of parts. 15-20 hours between tear downs was my interval on the 250f and I'm 165-175. Pistons went 60hrs. Valves started creeping around 50 hrs. It was a great bike, tons of useable power and handled like a mountain bike. As long you enjoy wrenching and/or have a hefty budget for maintenance they're awesome bikes.
