it's not for me, it's for my friend, but he either wants to buy a used yz250f or yz426f and can't decide between the two. we usually do trail riding and go up to the mx tracks. he hasn't sold his old bike yet and can most likely get to ride a 426 before he buys (there are so many people with them) but he doesn't know how the 250f compares to it and only dealers have any around here and they won't let anyone ride before they buy.

so my question is, what are the pluses and minuses of both bikes. which one is better for the type of riding he'll be doing, etc? thanks.

p.s. he is about 6 feet tall and about 150 if that helps.

The 250f is alot like a 125 in that you have to ride it full on to make it compete. On a 426 you can be lazy, a gear too high or a gear too low and still be OK (unless your a Pro). My 426 is heavy (30 lbs more than my 02 CR 250). Tighter tracks/woods go for the 250, more wide open go for the 426. I think in terms or reliability the 426 is better.
