I'm about to buy new sprockets and chain for my 300 and I was wondering what eveyone else was running. I was thinking of going down a tooth or two on the rear, currently 52. First gear is plenty low enough to grunt around it seems. Thought I'd check what others are doing before I make the purchase.

i run a 14-52 on my 300 which i think is just right for the woods. if i rode in the desert where it was more open i might consider taller gearing.

I like the stock 14/52 gearing. Sometimes I wish 2nd was just a touch lower, but then 1st would be pretty much useless. I've hardly ever used 5th in the dirt, its pretty much just reserved for gravel road & sand dune cruising.

13-51 was my favorite gearing on my 01' 300EXC.It gave me just a tad more top-end,and it still would lug in the tight woods, much like the 13-52.

14/52 here. I had it geared lower but I would hardly ever use 1st gear and 2nd gear was a little too slow for the big hill climbs where momentum is a big factor. I find myself using 1st more now but maybe a little more clutch on some of the climbs. I think the 300 has enough power and flexability it can get away without spot on gearing.
