I currently ride a 99 300 EXC and am in desperate need of a new pipe. My friend has a new stock pipe for his 00 380 EXC that I can get for pretty cheap. My question is how will this work? How will it effect the bikes power? Will it really be that much different than the 300's stock pipe? Anybody do this before? :think Thanks.

No, you may indeed get it to bolt up, but it is not designed for the 300. If it will bolt up you can count on a power loss.

Thanks

Strick, thanks for the info. Kinda bums me out since the pipe was brand new. Now I'll actually have to pay money for one!

If it were me, I'd try it just to see what happens. :>)

It's worth a try. There are no absolutes when it comes to seeking horsepower. Sometimes experiments like this discover untapped power while defying logic.

Ask any engine builder and he'll tell you we got here through trial and error.

No biggy if he can borrow his buddys silencer for a day to see how it runs. If it is acceptable then he can buy an aftermarket silencer for a lot les than a new pipe.

The difference is the one off the '96 fits a '96 and the one off the '99 fits a '99.

FMF's site shows one pipe for the '90-'97 250/300, then a '98-'99 250/300 pipe. No mention of the 360s and 380s.

In 2000, it is my understanding the KTM EXC and MXC motors in the 250 and 300 parted ways. The 2000 250 motor was all new from the cases up, whereas the 300 continued to use the old cases.

A '98-'99 250 stock pipe should fit your bike as well as a '98-'02 300 stock pipe. If you go to an FMF, get the M-20 version not the M-28 per Alan Randt at EE.
