The individual shop manual for the model you are working on is your best bet. When you get into specifics such as valve adjustment specifications, you will need that for the applicable model. Not ALL 4 strokes have the exact same cam design. The manual your are referring to would be fine for an overall understanding of 4-strokes.

For performance modification information, the Powroll website is pretty good

There's not really a "four stroke tuners handbook". As far as I know, there's nothing like that currently in print (hey, maybe a good idea for making money for a four stroke guru out there???).
