I'm just getting back into riding after taking a year off. My buddy had a 450 Exc that he won his district in 03'. He said that Lafferty told him to switch to the 400 in 04, he bumped up to A class but still placed top 5. Is the 400 a better bike in the tight woods than the 450 ? And as a side note he's switching to the 300 exc for some 05 events  I still can't make up my mind which way to go :bang: But I am very, very, very, very glad I sold my WR 450 :yeehaw: It was a beast but weighed a TON.

400

The 400 short stroke motor turns better in the tight woods.

Believe it or not im told the sx40 has far more potential as a gncc type bike than any of them. Much lighter...just add a fww.

The 400 is what im going with this year after 2 years on the
450exc (2nd B vet) The 450 is just a tad to much in a lot of situations and the short stroke motor is just a smoother and better feeling to me.

I've got an '02 400EXC with a Thumper Racing 450 kit.
The power delivery is excellent. I understand the added power is in the lower/mid rpm range making the delivery very linear.
