.44 springs in YZ 250

Has anyone tried .44 springs in a 01 YZ250? I weigh 190lbs and bottom often on a MX track. Therfore, I am thinking that stiffer springs with stock valving and lower oil height is the solution.

I'd add a bit of oil first, the stiffer springs will stiffen the whole fork and lowering the oil level it may still bottom. if you add oil it will stiffen the last 3rd of travel, if you stiffen the springs to .44 @ 190 pounds the front end would be fairly harsh.

I am a little heavier than you (205 lbs.), but my forks came back from MX Tech with .44's and they are far from harsh. '99 yz 250. They are good in all different terrain.

johnf3...did you also get the forks revalved? If so, you can't compare with stock valved forks.

I had a very similar situation (with similar forks and I weigh 195lbs). I dropped in .44 springs on my '01 KX250 and the front was harsh. After the MX-Tech revalve, they work very well.

I'm with Sage, if you want to keep the stock valving add some oil. I bet you can get them to work pretty well. Experiment with higher oil levels and and a little lower compression clicker settings.

The stock oil level is 135mm and they say in the owners manual that heavier riders can go to 80mm on the oil level.I am going to try this before I change springs.I weigh 225lbs so if I do get springs I will go with 45 and that way I could run a 43 and a 45 and and get 44 if the 45 springs feel to stiff.
