87' XR600 Electrical Problems

We have and XR600R that will run somewhat. The motor was just completly rebuilt and it will start after lots of kicking. There is fuel on the plug after kicking so we ruled that out, the engine has compression and air so we checked the spark. It is a yellow spark. no blue. so we put a new ingnition coil in it and it didn't seem to help the problem. Any other ideas? Loose conection, stator...???

XR600s had an appetite for source coils. You will probably end up changing the stator.

If I remember right; a bad one will have a burnt appearance.

Thanks for your help, that was our next guess. I told dad I could fix it but I guess he is just going to take it to the dealer and have em look at it. If it were me I would just take it out myself and get it rewound but I guess he has more money than brains. Thanks though.

Well after we took it to the dealer we found out that it was the stator. Any good places to get it rewound??
