Can anyone help in rectifying my starting problems? From cold it is virtually impossible to kick the bike to start, "bumping" the bike seems to solve it, changed air filter, plug(br8es), but still no-joy!!

Have you cleaned the carb? Not just spraying a little carb cleaner in it, I mean taking it apart and really cleaning it, preferably in some Berrymans Carb Dip, just make sure all the plastic and rubber pieces are taken off the carb. It will come out looking like new! Most times on my bikes, if it don't start I soak it that stuff and it starts right up.

Also, sometimes I've had that problem on other bikes, it was water in the carbs bowl that was causing the problem. My little Harley was doing that and it does not have a drain on the bowl. I took the carb off and the bowl had about 25% water in it

Sounds like the classic symptoms of low compression due to a worn top end. If Wibby's carb suggestion doesn't pan out, do a compression check.
