98' Suzuki forks on KDX - woods set-up?

Jeremy,
I have a set of 98 RM 250 twin chamber forks that I want to install on my 03' Kawasaki KDX 220. I wanted to maintain usage of conventional forks and I figured the twin chamber forks were my best option.
I have two questions. 1) What will it take to shorten the suspension by 1" so that it matches my KDX geometry and what will be the consequences? 2) If I send my forks to MX Tech what would you suggest as far as making the forks more plush and woods ready? I hear these forks are somewhat stiff.
170lbs. C in moto. B type in hare scrambles / enduro

Guess you could call MX-Tech and ask. It probably will cost better than $300.00 for rebuild/revalve/springs and shortening!
