Hi, I appreciate all who contribute to this forum. I just purchased a mint 98 JR50 for my 3-yr old son. Obviously, the first thing it needs is the throttle limited! (I have already installed the training wheels and he actually does very well on it (but the bike does scare him a little bit when he gives it too much throttle). He is very good about only giving it half/quarter throttle but I would like to make it so that he can ride it and it will only go to half throttle. I know you can do it, but my service manual absolutely does not discuss it. It has a throttle free play adjuster on the throttle cable, but that is about it. On our little 50cc quad the thumb throttle is limited with a little screw/bolt setup. Am I missing something or do I need to go out and buy some sort of throttle limiter?
Any help would be appreciated!

I have an '03 it has the throttle limiter, and exhaust restrictor.
You should put the restrictor (washer) in between the cyl and exhaust.
This does the best at limiting speed, with just the throttle stop it will still rev out pretty high.

I looked again and There is no adjustment screw anywhere on the throttle housing or the carb???Maybe the '98s didn't have the throttle limiter? Still has the exhaust washer so I am OK there. I just want to limit the throttle a little bit. I guess I may have to swap out an '03 throttle onto the '98?

Thanks

You can cut a small piece of PVC tubing and place it over the throttle cable above the slide. I seem to remember Rich posting something about this a while back.

the spacer over the slide works just fine...if you take the top off the carb the slide will come right out, the trick is to find a small enough piece of tubing to fit inside the spring...I used a shortened roll pin. Take the throttle cable off the carb and open up the roll pin enough to slide it over the throttle cable then put the whole works back together. I've since removed it and thrown it away, so I can't give you the dimensions.
