99 EXC250 - What type of forks do they have?

What type of forks does a 99 EXC250 have? Are they conventional or up side down? I looked at one 99 and it had what looked to be pretty big - 50MM (?) up-side down forks and I am going to look at another 99 tomorrow and the owner said it has conventional forks. Did they come with two different types of forks? Are there any problems with the conventional forks? Also are there any other trouble spots to look out for on a 99 EXC250?

Thanks,

I had a '99 250exc and they came with 50mm White Power conventional forks. They had the USD's starting the next year ('00). The guy may have switched forks for some reason. I thought the forks were decent and never had any complaints or problems with them.

Yep

50mm WP conventional forks. They perform very well IMO.

Check the Heim Bearing for play. Grab the bottom of the shock and rock it front to rear to see if there is any play, ~$60 fix. See if the fork seals are leaking - pump the forks up and down, look for excess oil. Check the kick starter for a firm feel. Those are three areas that could be suspect. Otherwise the 99 KTMs were great.

How about the 200 EXC?

I'm contemplating getting a '99 250 or 200 EXC for my son. We are VERY pleased with the WP 50mm on my '99 300. I was pretty much set on a 200 for him, but I can't keep him off my 300 and he rides it very well. So I am leaning towords a 250 now. He does some MX so a 250 will be max.

Do the '99 250 and 200 have the same forks? (50mm WP)

I think the 250 had the 50mm WP's but the 200 had the 45mm Zokes. I do know the forks were different depending on the bikes size.

And those 45's weren't well received for MXing. Plus, they ate seals pretty quickly when doing a lot of jumping.
