Do what he said, and what that book told me, use full manual settings to get used to what changes. The light meter built in helps you adjust the settings to get the right exposue. They call it the triangle something; shutter speed, aperature and iso. What I did to help was buy a kickass lens from Canon. It's the 75-300 image stabalizer one.
