Air box modification

Hey, I am considering modifiying my airbox. The link below is a picture of a mod that I am conisdering. Is this a acceptable way of going about this? Nevermind that the lid is cut and has to be replaced if a buyer wants a conplete airbox. My concerns are water and such. Bike is a KDX 220. Thanks ya'll....

Yes this is a good way to cut your air-box becasue it will stop any water from getting in. However I had a '98 KDX and I ran it without a lid and I never got water in there.
