You're right, it does run better without it, but I'm tired of getting so much crap in the airbox. I'm planning on cutting out the center section of the lid and putting in a fine mesh, this should let it get the extra air and keep out larger chunks of dirt and mud.

I thought about that too, but how would you keep it from sliding off? There doesn't seem to be enough room to pull it down far enough over the airbox.

You're supposed to ride with the seat on the bike. :)
