Airbox lid

Maybe a stupid question but I'm planning to trim my airbox lid like I've seen some of you do here, leaving enough for the ignitor block. My question is do you need the foam gasket? I guess you'd have to cut it and glue it in the air box lid groove.

Just pitch the lid. Drill a small hole in the front of the box to attach the ignitor to the outside just above the intake. Cheers.

I just removed the snorkle and drilled 16 3/8" hols in my lid the midrange seems to
pull harder now.

Does it make a big difference in power delivery? My bike has the stock pipe/silencer. Jetting 155 main, 45 pilot, needle 2nd position....still a tad rich. I've heard it strengthens the mid range hit. My thought was opening the air box lid should create just about pefect jetting.
