No way can I explain it... I can post the outdoor MX Class data:
MX Lites = 100-144cc 2-Stroke/126-250cc 4-Stroke
Motocross Class = 145-250cc 2-Stroke/251-450cc 4-Stroke
*The 144cc can only run the MX Lites Mod Class (among others)
**According to class cc limits the 250F cannot run the Motocrosss class, overbore to 251+ it can run the Motocross "MOD" class as it is no longer a stock machine.
*** Each class has a "stock" and "mod" group. Note you can bore a 125 2t and run MX Lites Mod however, in this class you cannot bore the 250F as over bore 250F will put you in the Motocross Mod Class (being a bored virgin it will be considered a mod bike)
Many outlaw tracks allow the 250F as well as 144-2T to run the Motocross class... according to AMA rules this is not legal racing but does increase track owner revenue. This would be a topic for another post as I feel many 125/250F riders would defeat their clone on the 250/450F
For sake of short post the SX lites is 250F... someone else will need to acknowledge for fact that these machines can be bored and modified beyond your/our wildest dreams.
