Membership in America's premier motorcycling association keeps on growing

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Membership in the AMA eclipsed 270,000 for the first time
in history. As the oldest, largest and only organization that represents the
interests and rights of all motorcyclists, the AMA counts 270,484 active
motorcyclists as members at the end of August.

"The growth of the AMA is testimony to the important work the association is
doing on behalf of motorcyclists in this country," says Scott Thornton, AMA
president. "With such an increasingly diverse membership, it is a daily
challenge to meet the needs of our members. It's gratifying to see our
continuing growth."

The AMA has grown by 35 percent since 1994, when membership first topped
200,000. Much of that growth can be attributed to the AMA's increasing role in
efforts to protect the rights of all motorcyclists in this country. The AMA has
a dedicated 12-member government relations division which acts on behalf of
motorcyclists by tracking, lobbying and modifying legislation which affects
motorcyclists' rights to ride. These efforts are focused at local, state and
federal levels, including active representation on Capitol Hill.

The AMA also recently moved to a new facility to better serve its members. One
change through the move is the enlarged and renovated Motorcycle Hall of Fame
Museum, a world-class motorcycle museum which regularly thrills both
enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike. Additionally, the AMA sanctions
thousands of non-competitive and competitive events nationwide every year and
is the premier sanctioning body for top-level professional races in various
racing disciplines throughout the country.

The AMA publishes American Motorcyclist, one of the largest motorcycle
magazines in the United States. Additionally, the AMA's website,
www.AMADirectlink.com, is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for
motorcyclists to catch up on the latest motorcycle news, race results or to
renew their membership or purchase products online.
