Ivan,

I'm sorry I made light of your situation or of any cat owners. I was just ribbing Sarge and not trying to make fun of cats. One of my many fond memories was of Mittens, a precocious Maine Coon that was a fighter till the end....

I cried and cried when he died because I had treated him as a toy when I was growing up. He died at the grand old age of 16. I was only 8 at the time and really had no idea what death was, but I was confronted with it head on when that wildcat died. No matter how many times he would jump me from under the bed or when he would purr when I rubbed him the right way, he was always game. The day finally came in sis's room, Mittens died on my sisters bed with me on the floor sitting with him and stroking him.

My fondest memories will always come from the pets that I have owned... :whiner:

Yeah I think that is a cat laying next to Irish's dog there on the floor? J/K

I used to have cats too, but they stopped coming inside for some reason (could have been the dogs) I do like cats though, they just don't like my dogs.

Of course sarge has cats. I think I remember a post of his about skinning cats for making cat mittens with dynamite or something along those lines.......

Thump - I think that you are right about taking a dog to the track & than beating him for being skeered!! Thats just retarted, I mean I have been known to beat the holy crap out my dog - I always feel sorry but IMO I'd rather wap her a good one in the mouth & maybe a few to the ribs then have a dead dog in the road(she wont go in the road, she stops 3 ft before it & gets praise for it!)! I dont wanna cause conflict with this(tho I know it will but owell) dude you may want to be carful acting to people that way, I know that was bad and I myself would have said something but maybe not that "violent" though. Im sure you could have taken him & prolly could take me but if you did that to me it definetly would have been "go-time" (If your really that mean & I was at all intimidated.....well yeah one of us would go to the hospital.... If not you then me cause I(like you?) wont stop till I cant go....) I dont mean to get you all heated & personaly I've always wandered what posses someone to take a dog to a race & wander why it scared(no leesh was he realy that dumb?)

People like that never learn! You should of just put the hurt to him, but then you would of lower your self to his level. (beating on a dumb animal)

David,
Hard to restrain yourself in such a situation, but you did the right thing by not poking the guy's lights out. I too like the "turn around and face me" thing!  LOL

The sad thing is that some folks treat their kids the same way.

Your the man thump! I'm a dog lover too, and I've stood up for a few myself. Its a pathetic person that beats on a dog. All you need with dogs is a little love and patcience and you can train one to do anything!

Is this how you were raised, limitless? When you wandered out of your room as a toddler did your dad pop you in the mouth and kick you in the ribs a few times, to get the point across?

I don't see any violence in what Thump did, just a well deserved confrontation.

You don't seem to understand any better than that punk did/does. Are you the same person?
It sure is easy to talk tough on the internet. I am having a hard time restraining myself here but I really don't want to sink to that level. I hope I don't see you beating your dog at DW. :thumb:

Good show Thump, nothing pisses me off more(and alot of other people apparently) then someone hitting a animal. I'm glad to see you have some kind of restraint cause man, that kid deserved a beating. I was in a similar situation last year, but replace the dog with a woman, and the kid with some 45 year old burnout skid. I was sitting on the patio of a local drinking spot, catching some rays when out of the corner of my eye I catch this guy give this poor woman a brutal back hand. Right across the face, ouch. I looked around the bar and everyone was just staring, so I get up(along with another fella) and proceed to um, well teach this guy some manors. Cops came, got to sit in the back of a cop car which was pretty cool, cuffs were a little to tight but not to bad. Worst part about this, was the woman not pressing charges. Ah well, I was let off, and haven't seen that guy since last summer. You did a good thing, I hope that dog takes a chunk out of that punks leg..

Very nice Cam. I punched out a couple of long winded replies but ended up feeling compelled to erase them before hitting that submit post button.

Limitless, my intent was not to be violent, if it was it would have diluted the reason for conflict... If a fight had insued, regardless of who came out on top, the kid would have remembered it in a year as just a fight at the track.... but by an ass chewing and a bit of humiliation he will never forget what happened, hopefullly he will learn from it. If not then I pitty his off-spring if he ever breeds himself. As for the way you teach your dog... well that is up to you, but I would bet that you don't beat it the way this guy was. I have spanked (discaplined) my dogs and rubbed their noses in piss when they go in the house more times than I can remember, but never have I beaten one which is what happened... it was not discapline it was animal abuse and to me it is no different than if the a guy was holding his 10 year old son down in the pits kicking him and punching him. As for the "go-time" comment and me being mean...? I guess I don't get that statement? Mean would have been putting him into submission by bending his middle finger back, having him get on his knees and eat dirt and grass with his left (free hand) and appologize to the dog, then leaving him there with a dirty face. I think what I did was more of a brutal reality check. He is actually lucky that the Police were not around because he could have gone to jail.

I do respect your opinion though and it is not a conflict to me... I posted this in the flame forum originally because I was pissed, not so people would agree or disagree with me, because unless you were really there you don't really know if you agree or disagree with me...

The saddest thing to me is that dog will have his head in the kids lap with all the love and affection he can muster on the drive home.... dogs are just that way, they just want their owners to love them, people should be so lucky to have that behavioral trait.

I've become more face to face confronting in the past year or two. I got tired of punks and fools thinking they can push their way around society, picking on people that won't stand their ground. When I see someone doing just that, I stand up for the guy that's afraid to say something. Guys that run around stomping through society need to go down in a heap, I'm sick of big mouth jerks that think they own the place. Respect my space and I'll respect yours, act like a punk idiot in my presence hoping for cowardly reactions, stand by. Pick on a dog, child or anyone else that can't take care of themselves, you'll have me to deal with. That's whay I do the job I do, help those that can't help themselves. If you think you look tough beating the crap outta your pet, you don't, you look like a fool that has no spine. If it takes beating a dog to save it's life, better get a book and learn some new techniques for training, I ain't seen that ANYWHERE.

Thump said it all, you can do all this crap to your dog and guess what, at the end of the day, he'll be right there, sleeping in your lap. Get a clue, they don't deserve the treatment and if you think they do, stand by cause someone may just step up and put you in your place.

Well said Thump. It is a sad but true thing that dogs are ever forgiving. They will take the discipline, no matter what the severity and still come back to you, tail wagging.

My dog gets butt - chewings and that is it, or maybe a little swat to the rear for a reminder here and there. When she gets into trouble (very seldom) and gets cussed out, all she wants to do is crawl up on my lap and let me know she's sorry.

I feel horrible when I accidentally hurt her, I can't image how I'd feel after beating her. Probably suicidal.

Way to go Thump!!

Bravo to you Thump!!!

I would have done the same thing, although the restraint part is getting harder and harder to hold back. They finally passed a Felony Animal Cruelty Law here in GA. Can't tell you how many times the wife and I have called the cops for someone abusing their animals.(and I'm not talking about spanking your animals.)

The wife is a volunteer for a local animal rescue group. Don't even try and guess how many animals have come through our door. We take and nurse the sick back to health, the ones who are young & healthy go on to be adopted out. The older/sick ones live out the rest of their days here at what we like to call Whisker City(our house).

Right now we have 1 White English Angora Rabbit(abandoned), 2 Ferrets(1 given up, the other we, or I should say our ferret adopted), 1 Chow Shepherd Mix(rescued, mine), 1 Siberian Husky(abandoned), and a bunch of cats(all rescues).

And if you think that men who have cats are not MEN, then stop by sometime and we'll go ice or rock climbing. See if YOU can keep up.

And maybe I'll let you shoot the UZI with the suppressor. :aj:
If you can hold on to it!

I hear that Crash. We met some guys from Sillynoise(that's what they called it) at the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot last year.

We were appalled to hear it's becoming a Nazi state like CA.

I'm glad I can sit here in the good old south and stroke my silenced Beretta in my underware...oops, err, I mean, nevermind.

:p :p :p

I'll have to look around here for some pics.

ahhh this may not be popular but here it goes...............thump you missed a golden opportunity. it was great all the way up to the end. all that kid knows is that you were pissed about the dog. i know this sounds stupid but he might not of known any better. kids do stupid stuff and unfortunately many imitate their parents. kind of like child abuse or alcohol abuse. when they came over to see if everything was "cool" you might of made a difference in that dog owners life by explaining things to him about how to take care of the dog. he actually cared about what you thought (evidenced by you coming over to see you afterwards). your experience and love of dogs would of been evident to him. if he was a regular at the track you could of kept up with the progress of the dog and he would have an expert to ask any questions. i know that the "heat of the moment" makes control difficult and i applaud you for sticking up for the dog. that took huevos in this pc oriented era. the above is food for thought and can be taken for what its worth. ive spent some road trip time with david and he is a quality individual. dogs everywhere couldnt do any better. hope to see ya this weekend if the weather holds out.

Thump, I know that you are faster than me on the track, probably run circles around me at a track meet but I don't think you would have beat me at confronting the sOb.  I think like you when it comes to my animals and it is disgraceful when ANYONE abuses their pets.  (Extending my hand across the internet for a job well done.:thumb: )
