AN IMPORTANT TECHNICAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM KTM
Amherst, OH, 16.August 2002

THE FOLLOWING IS AN IMPORTANT TECHNICAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM KTM Sportmotorcycle USA, Inc TO ALL KTM OWNERS:

KTM Sportmotorcycle USA, Inc., has discovered that the lower triple clamp on some KTM full size competition motorcycles (listed below) is defective and could break under some riding conditions. Worldwide we have experienced actual failures on only 3 motorcycles. These failures were experienced during internal KTM test sessions. Through our internal investigation we have learned that the triple clamps in question were purchased from an outside supplier. They come from a specific series of limited production which has now been identified by the KTM factory technicians. This defect cannot be repaired by even the most skilled shop; the triple clamp must be replaced.

For this reason, KTM wishes to inform any dealer or customer who may have received one of the affected motorcycles. Working with our colleagues at KTM Austria we have been able to create a list of motorcycles that MAY HAVE the potentially defective clamp. KTM USA is providing KTM dealers with a list of VIN numbers of the units in question. Please check with your dealer to confirm whether or not your motorcycle is affected.

On Thursday, August 22nd, 2002 KTM will provide a final list of units that are affected.. Customers who have received one of the affected motorcycles will be first in line for replacement parts and, of course, the repair will be carried out without charge to the customer.

KTM Sportmotorcycle USA regrets this inconvenience and pledges to give this matter absolute top priority. The safety of our customers is our most important consideration.

IF YOU OWN ONE OF THE MOTORCYCLES LISTED BELOW, PLEASE DO NOT RIDE IT UNTIL FIRST CHECKING WITH YOUR KTM DEALER. RIDING A POTENTIALLY AFFECTED MOTORCYCLE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Stay tuned to this website for updated information. We will post it here as soon as it is available.

The affected models are: 2002 250 EXC Racing, 2003 200 EXC/MXC, 2003 250 EXC, 2003 250 EXC Racing, 2003 300 EXC/MXC, 2003 450 EXC/MXC Racing, 2003 525 EXC/MXC Racing, and 2003 525SX Racing.
