I am in the process of selling my 2000 YZ125; great bike, bad choice for my needs. Anyway, I might want to try something different and was thinking of an 250EXC. I dedicate about 50% of my time to scrambles and grand prixs, the other to trail riding in Southern California. I would gather top say that the EXC is the most versitle for the aforementioned type of riding. In looking for a used bike, should I stay away from a particular year?

Duke, I would stick with the '98 and above years. 1998 is the year KTM moved way ahead with fork quality, frame geometries, engine design, and PDS shock setup. You will find more aftermarket parts for the '98 and up models than you will with the 96'-97's.

I agree with BigStoppy. The newer, the better as far as the PDS shock. My 99 250EXC was dead reliable in 1.5 years of enduro and hare scrambles. Never broke a single thing that wasn't pilot error :) and even then nothing that kept me from riding.
