Any senior riders?

I'm 2 months from the big 50. What do I have to look forward to as for as riding ability goes? How long till reflexes and strength start to go away? How old are some of you out there? I need a little encouraging. Right now I.m doing as good as ever maybe better by using a little more sense instead of all throttle. I've been riding since 16 so I'm not a beginner, that should help, I hope. Let me hear from the old guys on this. Also any tips would be nice too. Thanks Rob

I went to the Red River Enduro at Muenster last weekend and their were plenty of "Seniors" riding. Continue as long as you are fit and interested. No reason to stop because of a number.

When I did a few hare scrambles in the +40 class, the +50 class would start one minute behind us. More than a few would catch me before the end of the first loop, so if we are ever in the same hare scramble, you can look forward to catching up to me, passing me, and pulling away from me. I have a friend that's 61yrs and he beats guys 20yrs younger. Another friend is 67 and is no slouch either. So now you can concentrate on more important things to worry about than riding at age 50. Like, finding a good time to take a nap without the doorbell or phone ringing. :confused:

That is what I wanted to hear. I love to ride, plain and simple. Want to as long as possible. Also see you live in Houston, do you ride in the Nat'l forrest? Also ever been to Outlaw trax? I'm a member there. Has a neat outdoor track and 12-15 miles of trails. Coming this way let me know and we can ride sometime. Rob

I`m a 53 year old rider,used to race motocross and enduro but just trail ride now.I`m not as fast as i used to be but its because im out of shape and only ride in cool weather.One of my riding buddies is 62 and retired,rides 2-3 times a week,works out at the gym aand is faster now than when he raced years ago,he also does`nt wear out like i do.IT`S ALL a matter of keeping yourself in shape and your reflexes sharp.You do slow down some with age but all those years and miles of riding knowledge will show up in a lot of tricky situations.Just keep riding and having fun and don`t worry about the kids being faster than you are.By the way I got to ride 2 times this year,broke my keg 2 weeks ago,i think it hurts more when your old:scream:

im just a kid (39) but i read somewhere that dick burleson just won the first moto at red buds fall mx race in 250b and hes in his 50s so obviously hes no slouch

I always looked forward to the over 40 class and once arriving there 6 years ago I found out these guys are more serious than the +30's. I know a +50 expert and he's more serious than that, as he blows past me, and is not even a little bit winded after the race. I never thought I would have to "train" for the over 50 class but I do enjoy it. See you at the starting line. I'm the headed guy with glasses and a limp from a bad moto knee.

that burelson rode at red bud. but what was he doing in the 250 B class is my question.

I'm 55 this year and still like to race and ride, though it seems like it takes a long tome to get in shape and I am much more cautious than I used to be.. I'm tired of gettting hurt, cause it takes tooo long to heal anymore.. I ride with some other older guys and we have a blast.. Sometimes we drag a a few of the whippersnappers along, but they always have to wait cause they usually don't know one trail from the other.. Hey enjoy yourself and ride your ride..

I'll be 42 on Wednesday and people are already asking me when I'm going to take up a "more tame" hobby. I believe I will do this until it's no longer fun. I think electric start could add 10 years to my career!:cool: Downside to this is I'm now usually the oldest guy when we go riding.

I'm 48 and just started MX when I was 44, I had to wait for the kids to get grown and gone so I would have time. I now have my own track and ride 3-4 times per week and I plan to keep it up until I'm 60 then I'll go back to woods riding. I really believe MX keeps me young and healthy because I have to stay in shape for the sport. Most of the guys I ride with are younger but a couple are older and still going strong.

I rode dirt bikes fanatically from the age of 18 until I was 33 or so. Then kids and work and all those other "responsibilities" kept me from riding. At 50 I bought a dirt bike again. I was surprised that I wasn't nearly as slow as I thought I'd be. Plus it forced me to get back into some reasonable level of physical conditioning. At 54, my only regret is that I ever stopped for a while.

I'm 54 and have been riding for 30 years. I think I enjoy riding as much now as I did when I was younger. I just wish I could go faster but the body just wont do it.:(

Just what class, at 54, would you expect Burlelson to ride? :confused: I don't see you signing up in the AA class at any enduros or harescrambles.
