I am changing out the springs on my '00 CR 250 and can not compress the fork enough to get the holding tool installed so that I can screw the rebound adjuster to the damping rod. I am trying this alone and can compress it enough with both hands but when I reach for the tool I loose pressure. Any tips or what am I doing wrong?

You will have to get some weight behind it but should be able to hold it down with one hand and get the holder tool in there.

I usually stand my fork upside down on a soft surface and push down on the axle clamp to get the maximum weight/leverage on it. If you are trying to do this with the fork horizontal in a vice, I can see where it would be more difficult.

I should have clarified that soft surface is a rubber mat on my garage floor.

Good luck.

Yes it is close to Raleigh. We were there all day Sunday and both tracks as well as the trails were in good shape. I have to work this weekend so no riding till Monday for me.
