Anybody else living through the end of the world?

Finally we have a snowstorm predicted for this weekend. Started out Wed on the weather as 4 to 6" of snow with high winds. Thurs it went to 6 to 8 "a nd this morning they were saying 8 to 12". Now tonight they are screaming 11 to 16" with high winds. The way the news is hyping this you would think the world was ending. Wife stopped to pick up a couple items at the grocery store and aisles were almost sold out.
Come on people we live in an area that has winter. we have been spared this winter so far from heavy snow but don't panic over one storm. Stock up for a day so you can sit back and enjoy it while having a daddy pop (or adult beverage of your choice), maybe pop some popcorn, watch some TV (SX is on Sunday :cool: , unless the storm to end the world pre-empts it :think: ), maybe even read a book.
I am not saying go out and drive in hazardous conditions but enjoy winter or move the heck out and go where winter doesn't exist. (BTW I will never complain about cold or snow but don't get me started on heat- that really is the end of the world come summer ;) )

Because the end of the world is forcasted I decided to stay home rather that drive to Wausau to visit my son and his family.A four hour drive can easily turn into an 8 hour drive.You could always watch re-runs of the Packers LOSING. :nener:

I was glad Chili decided not to stay here tonight but instead get as far northwest as he could tonight altho I enjoy him stopping by.

Also not sure the world is ending in Wausau as they were only expected to get about 6 to 8"

Here in cali, we get a 1/4" of rain and the news casters have reports about "downpores" and "Flood Conditions" hahha.

I like how they drag it out and make you watch all the other mis-imformation first! Almost as bad as the bs rags at the check out, I put mxa rags up there too! At least I have the DRN! There is always getting some friends together and bench racing, and speed on Sunday!

I get a laugh when the tv reporters stand on an overpass on the Eisenhower herolding the end of the world with 2" of snow slowing traffic down.sensational dingbats.

Oldguy, I know what you're saying, the media forecasted "heavy thunderstorms, with a strong chance of 'unstable atmospheric conditions' ":think: I think that is supposed to be a pretty good chance of rain.
On the other hand, the season is approaching that those same forecasts will send us to our hidey holes with our battery powered radios to tell us how bad off we are after the house moves to another county.

According to my wife, we had 3 typhoons here last year in the suburbs of Chicago. This quailifies her for a weather reporters job. I refer to it as the pusification of America.
Dave since everybody will be "snowed in", the roads will be empty, I will drive my 2WD pickup to your house to watch the race, I dont have speed ch :(

we had a squall last night, and I knew the moment I started thinking about what to have for dinner the ambulance pages would begin. It amazes me how fast people forget how to drive in the crappy weather. And we only had a couple inches at the most in this last one.

Thankfully, people must have decided to stay home because we only had two calls for wrecks on the highways. Of course, more is predicted for the weekend :bang:

Yup, we went from -10 to -15 to 40 in a few days. Most of the snow even melted. Now if you listen to the news you'd think that we live in FL and are getting a hurricane or something :coocoo:

I feel your pain, Dave! People are stupid. :whoa:

It's the same thing anywhere you go. When I was living in Iowa, every time they predicted snow the grocery stores were PACKED with people stocking up on milk and bread. How freaking stupid is that? I've been on the planet for 42 years now, and I can't remember one time that it snowed so bad that we couldn't get out of the house and drive to the store if we needed something. They have snow plows and sand trucks. The roads will NOT be closed long enough for your average person to starve to death.

Bottom line, if you live where it snows a lot, and you don't have enough basics in the house to survive for a day, you should be kicked off the planet. :p

:nod: Well last night we got a bit of a reprieve from the forecast 5 to 8" we got maybe 6" which I am going to blow out soon adn tonight we are told to expect another 10 to 16". the plows have done a great job in fact my wife drove into town this morning to get donuts for breakfast :nod:
When I still worked I was amazed how many people called us (the county sheriff dept) to get a ride to work. They always had a reason they had to get there but it was so hazardous they couldn't drive. They must have thought our Crown Vics were equipped with tracks or something. I know the roads were declared impassible a couple times but I always was expected to drive my own car in and be at work . Yes when it got bad enough we teamed a squad and a county plow so we could get to where we needed altho it sometimes took a whole lot longer.
We once had a Dr that called in and said he needed to get to the hospital for an emergency surgery of which he was the only specialist in the area. we sent a squad and a plow- picked him up and soon noticed we were leading a caravan of cars from his subdivision. We got to lead the parade to the hospital where all the followers then asked us to plow them a path to their destination.. I hope they enjoyed the hospital food or sitting at the county highway shop until the plows went to the next place. :laugh:

Another weather related pet peeve of mine is schools cancelling the day before a large storm is supposed to hit and then seeing 5 snowflakes falling in the morning. We always got by getting up at 5AM lstening to the radio praying to hear our school so we could spend the day playing in the new snow. Related is closing because it is to cold out- I thought our schools had central heat and that the kids no longer brought coal to school to heat their rooms. Oh well just the rants of an old man anyways

Global Warming?

Hard to imagine what you all are going through with all that snow... Guess it is a case of " It is what it is"... Still, I cannot fathom having to adapt my daily grind to account for a ton of snow.

What does it cost a month to keep your houses warm?

Wonder how your winter and our snow in Malibu California can be explained by proponents of Global Warming...?

Ken our 2800 sq ft home last month when it hit -15 a couple days but probably averaged +10 for the month less then $140 (natural gas with 2 furnaces house at 70 during the evening and 3 hours in the morning when we are getting ready to leave and 64 during the day and after bedtime)

What does it cost to cool your homes in the hot months

I love winter and cold but hate heat hence I will never complain about winter :nod:

I'll complain about the snow part of winter it keeps me off the trails! Though so far this year it has not been an issue. But I agree, I'll take heat bills over cooling bills any day.

We only got an inch of snow last night, more on the way this afternoon. No big deal on the snow, its the constant 20 mile an hour winds I could do without.

Walt I blew the driveways out and we have about 7" but no wind as of yet.
Trudy got a new job in Madison when her old company shut down all their satelite offices. Our only other option was to move to Atlanta, St Louiis, or Sacremento. Couldn't afford CA, St Louis ws low on appeal, and Atlanta was way to hot.
We actually live just otside of Sauk City (1/2 way between Baraboo and Madison

Dave, looks like pushing on was a good decision for me. I was out of hours and should have been off the road in Menomonie but decided to chance it and keep pushing. I ended up stopping in Fargo at about midnight and calling it a day. This morning Fargo had a bit of snow but nothing too bad, however the Interstate was sheer ice in sections which made for slow going but at least passable.

kmccune, I knew you were in WI but never noticed you were in Somerset. How far off 94 are you? Always good to know I've got another haven should I get stranded along my route.

No problems at the border, guy never asked thankfully. Not sure about the tires, a few of my buddies that never got back to me left messages this week while I was away but I may tell them they are SOL, especially since the truck goes in the trader this week so this could all come to an end pretty quick.
