anyone here have a digital camcorder? im thinking of buying one...

I am looking into buying a digital camcorder so i can upload videos to my computer to post on the web adn email. One thing i am wondering is- do they make any digital camcorders that take still photos? they make digital cameras that take short videos, so i would think they make it the other way around too. I will be using the camcorder mostly to record me and my friends off roading and at the sand dunes on quads/dirtbikes and rail cars. any suggestions or advice?

Most digital camcorders also take stills. But they aren't very good at it. Just like still cameras aren't good at video. I posted my recommendations on format in another thread just last week. Personally, I use Digital8, but I also like MiniDV.

Hard to go wrong with Sony Digital8, same quality as MiniDV and the tapes are cheaper. Had mine for almost 7yrs and it still works great. Stills aren't too good but FruDaddy already touched on that.
