The only class that ran 45 minutes was the one fishead's boy was in - BTW, as has proven to be a recurrent theme with the lad, he was the picture of true grit as he rode straight into a large stump, nailed his knee good enough to raise his voice an octave or two, then refused to take a breather before he returned to the battle. There were lots of tough little kids out there for that matter. James and I worked two corners during the kiddie races where they tended to need a helping hand, not a complaint amongst 'em. NOBODY complained that the 1 1/2 hours for amatuer/ C classes/ etc. or 2 1/2 hours for the fast guys was too little. The woods were tighter than usual, the conditions were hot and dry - you could barely see through some spots in the woods - some people were using the grass track and the "motocross course", all 3 jumps and a sweeper of it, just to cool off body and machine before they dove back into the woods. Course was 8 miles long, about 7 of which was woods. Turnout was around 300. Hare Scrambles aren't for everyone - I could take 'em or leave 'em myself, and I lean toward the latter -, but they do offer something enduros & poker runs don't, and that is an actual off road race where you're racing against the guy next to you and a hundred or so just like him, not just a clock, endurance & finesse. As such, the course needs to be somewhat centralized for obvious safety reasons IMO, but it's a long way from what I'd call a motocross course....it ain't nearly that polite. :aj:
