Anyone run a 13/53 sprocket combo on a crf450r?

i have a crf450x, i know the gearing in the tanny is different from the R but mine came stock with 13/51 sprockets i went to a 13/54 and i really like it. i mainly hillclimb and off-road race but i do hit the track too. it really shines in the tight turning and technical stuff, it also helps keep the bike from stalling so easily. the only thing it will hurt is your top speed, as long as you dont have the need to exceed 60 to 70 mph i would definitly do it. good luck.

i didnt have to modify the chain guard, it was close but it did work, :) and you should be fine going to a 12 on the front the only time i usually run into trouble is going to a bigger sprocket on the front like a 14 then it may rub the chain/crankcase guard.

do you have a manual that came with the bike? check in it for oil weights i just run Honda 10w-40 in my X. just try and change your oil every 5 rides or so depending on how hard you ride. and as for checking valve clearences, depending on your riding style, and how often you ride maybe once a year would be fine. i know the R takes more maintenance than the X due to higher revs and such, my X is almost 4 years old now and i haven't had to touch any internals, including valve clearance. :nod:
