Bearing replacements
Hi there
I am replacing my rear wheel bearings on my XR and I am having trouble. I removed the right hand bearing by using a hammer and rod from the other side, but for the left hand bearing there is a 5mm thick circular piece of metal in the way. It have 4 small holes and I am wondering if these are for a special tool to remove the metal if it is threaded.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I've never seen an XR wheel but it sounds like a screw in retainer like the ones used on CRs. Clean the threads as well as possible, then you can eitheruse a mallet and punch to tap the 'holes' to make the retainer screw out, or you can make a tool to fit the holes... Look out for peens (?) punched in to hold the retainer in place, if there are any drill them out first. Heat is useful if the threads are jammed btw...
