Looking to buy a good beginner's dirt bike:

1) 6', weigh 180 lbs and 35 yrs old
2) ride mountain bikes and played sports all my life
3) plan on riding trails and woods...maybe some MX
4) never ridden before...but am gonna take the IDOT motorcycle class
5) will not be racing
6) would like something that i could do the work on myself
-I'm guessing a 2 stroke would be easier to maintain??
7) like the looks of KTM and Honda...KTM dealer approx 10 miles
away from my house

I was thinking maybe a 125 cc MX bike...not sure if I am too heavy or tall for something like that.

Any suggestions...

Thanks-

The CRF250X might be a good choice as well as something from the KTM MXC or EXC lineups. Another option would be the Kawasaki KDX200/220. Buddy66 What exactly would be the difference between an 03 and an 04 CR125 that would make the 03 a better choice?

KTM 200 ...if this bike had been available when I started riding It would have made my life easier...great low end torque and when you get ready for it LOts of rip on the top! In my oppinion when you are starting to learn to ride , a bike with low end is much easier to ride than a bike that is all top end.

Shoot, if your THAT close to a KTM dealer, take a look at the 250EXC (Racing). Maybe you can pick up a '04, a bit cheaper than brand new.

Of course, theres nothing like a brand -new bike....
