Oh yes, I'm still here. Still listening and taking it all in. I am just surprised by some of the answers. I will be taking a better look at all of the choices out there. I'll start looking at the papers and cycletrader.com for bikes in the 1-3 year old vintage. Does anybody know where a person can get their hands on a bike for a weekend? (I don't know anybody who has a bike) I want to ride all these bikes, I just don't want to look like PeeWee Herman when he swung a leg over a Harley. Since my position with the company that I worked for no longer exists, my plans for purchasing a motorcycle have been pushed into next year. Anyway, I have got to add some upper-body muscle on my pedal-pusher body. I do however want to get out in the woods this fall on a bike...that would be great. I'll try to sum this up: 1. Don't spend a lot of money on your first bike. 2. Buy a bike that is easy to fix and modify. 3. If you have money to burn, buy a small Euro bike. 4. Once bike is secured, ride it until you have a silly unremovable grin on your face. 5. Reward your perfected bike skills on a brand new Euro bike (if that is what you want) Thanks all for your help on this... I'll save a few bucks and still have fun doing it. See you in the woods....Eventually.
