Best cylinder for '02 CR250....'02, '03, or '04?

My buddy scored the cylinder on his '02 CR250 really badly, so now he is looking for a new cylinder. I have noticed that any cylinder from '02-'04 will fit. I am wondering if the newer cylinders are better and he should buy one of those. Do they have better porting or any other improvements? Thanks.

'02 or '03 use the same valve & cyl. head. No big power difference between them.
Cheapest & best power would be to have it big bored/replated to a 265.
The '04 would require you to buy valves, cyl head, etc.. If you want to go that route, get the '05 set up...it's the best of all the stock cyl.'s from '02-'05. But you would need alot of parts (Cyl head, valves, exh. port cover, new exhaust pipe, etc.)

02 and 03 use different cylinders and valves. Even the pipes are different. If you get the newer cylinder, get the power valves and pipe to go with it.

The best alternative is to send it to USChrome to have it replated. They charge 175$. The plating is better and the bore can be made tighter compared to what you can buy stock.

While it is there Eric Gorr can port it for you for around 125$. The '02 cylinder can use it.
