I grew up riding XR's as a kid and have been out of MX for about 7 years but recently bought a used 2000 YZ426.

I was wondering what is the best engine Oil?

I have heard that synthetics can be bad for the clutch is this true.

Synthetics are not bad for clutches if they are used from the begining and will work fine in your YZF. Older clutches that have been run on standard oil can often times start slipping if you switch to synthetic.
There is no "BEST OIL" but if you do a quick search in the forums you'll find lots of info on people's experiences with the various oils on the market.

Some additional oil info can be found at http://www.ericgorr.com/techarticles/mototech_june_1999.htm
