Has anyone ever bought a bike at auction on ebay? If so what are some tips to keep in mind? Also how do you contact Foward Air? Did you use the escrow account? Thanks for the help, Rob

I bought the one I have now off Ebay.Some advice...be the last bidder!:eek: We just drove and picked mine up so I do not know nothing about forward air.:think

I jjust bought one on ebay today. I'll meet the guy halfway, about 115 miles for each of us, at the end of the week. I'll let you kn ow how it works out.
I have sold one bike online, met the guy halfway, 5 hour drive, and bought one online 12 hour drive. They were both private treaty, not ebay.

I bought one on ebay and went and picked it up. If it wasn't as described I wouldn't have paid, don't think I'd buy one that had to be shipped unless it was an older bike that you know is going to need work?
2nd ride the wheel bearing disintegrated and destroyed the hub, my fault for not checking it closer before I rode it, the hub might have been cracked already? , $350 mistake:(

you will have to pay someone to crate it too. i just sold one on ebay and the crate charge was $85. forward air should have terminals at most major airports.

I've sold 6 bikes on ebay. I would demand good, up close pictures of the bike before bidding. A lot of stuff won't show up with poor pictures or ones that are too far away to see detail. Ask many questions about every little detail. Such as rust, corrosion, stripped bolts, oil leaks, bent radiators, dented rims, chassis greased, etc. Keep in mind that one guy can view a bike as "in really good shape" another guy can view it as "a total pile of crap". Some ads are written horribly or lack detail. If the guy can't elaborate on it's condition or are short on words be leary. The only exception is if it is new or as new.

The older the bike is, the more chance it has been cannibalized or abused.
Don't even consider a bike without pictures.
Some guys refuse to help with shipping or crating- I don't know how they even expect to sell it. I'd stay away from a guy like that unless you can pick it up yourself.
Check the guys feedback profile.

Why on Earth would you go to that place to look for a bike, or sell one, when you have the best place for that right here ??????? :confused:

The bikes I sold on ebay were collector/special interest bikes. What is great about ebay is that the buyers tell you what it is worth. I sold a cherry 78 Yam DT250 for $1400. There is no way that I would of got that much by advertising it in a classified somewhere. The guy who bought it was very happy with the deal too. I would of sold it for $800. So if I put it in a classified for $800, I would of had people look at it and say "I'll give you $600". On ebay the price will only go up. In the end the seller is happy and the high bidder must be happy because he willingly spent whatever they thought it was worth.

Also, there are alot more people looking at ebay than DRN. It's America's yard sale. It would be alot harder to sell a semi-popular bike that is found everywhere in the country though. Works for me.........

Ebay is a funny thing. I have gotten great deals on brand new service manuals on the site and have also seen junky old parts go for more than they would cost brand new OEM. So far, most of the people I've dealt with have been pretty honest, just not very knowledgeable about what they are selling.
