I just got a ford ranger 2wd truck, and what to go riding this weekend but don't have a ramp. Anyone have any ideas on how to build a simple/cheap ramp. The truck has a 6' box and the bottom of the bed to the ground is about 30".
I just use a 2x8 too. I cut it as long as I can so it still fits in the back of the truck (OK, so it hangs out a little ;)) If the truck is really high or you have very short legs you can use an old milk crate to use as a step when you're pushing it up the ramp.
I had a leftover piece of 1/2" plywood that was 1'x8'. I reinforced it underneath with some 7' long 1"x3"s from a crate. I've ridden a 500 lb. Sportster up into my truckbed on it.
Of course it helps that I had all the material leftover from a project.
I use a leftover piece of I-Joist material, used in the underflooring of houses. I put a 2x2 horizontally across one end to keep it from sliding forward when it is leaned against the tailgate of the truck.
It works great and can be found for free, laying around most jobsites.
